Indoor Harvest Launches Pilot with Tweed
September 29th, 2015
Indoor Harvest Corp. ( ), a mechanical design build contractor, developer, marketer, and direct seller of commercial grade aeroponic and hydroponic vertical farming fixtures and supporting systems, recently announced the initial results of its technical pilot for its aeroponic system and the next steps in the ongoing cannabis production pilot project with Canopy Growth Corp. ( ).
In December 2014, the company entered into a pilot project agreement with Canopy Growth Corp. to test the production of cannabis using its high-pressure aeroponic system and record growth rate, phytocannbinoid production, water usage, fertilizer usage and labor required to operate the system. The pilot took place between March and August of 2015 where Ghost Train Haze was planted using a “Screen of Green” cultivation method.
The company’s aeroponic system demonstrated a significant increase in growth rate during the vegetative stage, as compared to more traditional production methods such as drip irrigation using coco. Fertilizer usage was also reduced by as much as 68% with the system averaging 8 gallons a day under high pressure sodium and 9 gallons a day under LED, operating drain to waste. Additional fine tuning could reduce water use by as much as 98% in total.
In September 2015, the company extended collaborative research and development for an additional two years. It’s now in the process of providing specifications and costs to build out 1,700 sq.ft. of aeroponic production space at the Tweed facility in Smith Falls for the purpose of an economic pilot. If successful, the deal could provide a key proof of concept for the company’s technology throughout the global cannabis industry.
Shares of Indoor Harvest Corp. were unchanged in early trading on Tuesday, September 29, 2015.
